The stunning Hippeastrum, sometimes called the western Amaryllis, is a genus that is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, and exists in at least 90 different varieties.
It is purely ornamental as it is HIGHLY TOXIC, and one should be aware to DO NOT INGEST.
These gorgeous flowering ornamentals' name means "sparkling" in Greek, and has its origins in the myth about a shepherdess by the name of Amaryllis. A healthy Hippeastrum bulb can keep sharing it's gorgeous blooms for about 75 years!

Water: Water sparingly until the bulb develops leaves or flowers, then water when necessary.
